IP & Digital Income
Package your knowledge. Help others. Create income that scales globally.
What this island is about
IP-intensive industries account for approximately 35% of Australia's GDP and employ around 2.6 million Australian workers. Cultural and creative activity contributed $63.7 billion to the Australian economy in 2022-23. The digital transformation market reached USD $18.5 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow at 18.4% CAGR.
Where to start
- 1
Step 1 - Notice Problems
Spend one week paying attention to problems people repeatedly mention. Ask yourself: - What frustrates people? - What do people ask me for help with? - What takes people too long? - What do I know that others don't? Every valuable digital product begins with solving a real problem.
- 2
Step 2 - Create Something Small
Don't build an app. Don't create a huge course. Create one small thing. Examples: - A budgeting spreadsheet - A travel checklist - A meal planner - A Canva template - A Lightroom preset - A dance training guide - A one-page PDF - A Notion template Your first creation should be something you can finish in a weekend.
- 3
Step 3 - Share It
Show it to ten people. Ask: - Would you use this? - What would improve it? - Would you recommend it? Feedback is more valuable than perfection.
- 4
Step 4 - Publish It
Choose one platform. Examples: - Gumroad - Etsy (digital downloads) - Shopify - Your own website - YouTube - Substack - App Store The goal isn't to make money immediately. The goal is to make your first creation available to the world.
- 5
Step 5 - Improve It
Listen carefully to users. Keep improving. Most successful digital products are dozens of small improvements rather than one brilliant idea.
- 6
Step 6 - Create Again
Your first product probably won't become your biggest success. That's normal. Each project teaches you something. The creators who succeed are usually the ones who keep creating.
Campfire Conversation
The book gave you their story. These questions continue it.
- What's a skill or piece of knowledge you have that other people regularly ask you about?
- Did you ever try to turn something you knew into an income stream? What happened?
- What do you wish someone had helped you package or share earlier in life?
- Which of your ideas do you still think has legs - even if you never acted on it?
- If you had a year to build something that outlasts you, what would you build?

The book that turns lessons into a legacy
The Archipelago teaches the thinking. The Six Islands book is where a parent writes the story behind the money: the mistakes, the wins, and what they want their child to remember.
